Bangladesh’s ODI captain, Shakib Al Hasan, faces uncertainty in his availability for the upcoming clash against India due to a left quadricep injury he sustained during their recent match against New Zealand. As the Bangladesh team arrived in Pune from Chennai, they are closely monitoring Shakib’s condition in preparation for the crucial game against India.

Shakib’s injury concerns became apparent during his batting, and the situation prompted his immediate transfer to the hospital for a comprehensive scan upon completing his ten-over bowling spell. The medical examination focused on the left quadricep muscle region, and the team’s National Team Physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, offered insights into the situation, stating, “The player experienced discomfort in the left quadriceps area while batting. Despite the discomfort, he continued to field and completed his allotted ten overs. We conducted an MRI scan post-game, and we will closely assess his fitness in the lead-up to the upcoming matches. Our approach will be guided by his day-to-day progress.”

On the matter, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official shared on Saturday, “I cannot confirm his availability for the next game at this point. There is certainly some doubt due to a minor tear, though we are hopeful for his inclusion in the playing XI for the game against India, scheduled for October 19. As for the grade of the tear, whether it’s grade one or two, we cannot divulge, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.”

Shakib’s potential absence due to injury would be a significant setback for Bangladesh as they seek to rebound from two consecutive losses against England and New Zealand, following their victorious start against Afghanistan. The team eagerly anticipates Shakib’s fitness status as they gear up for this pivotal encounter with India.
