Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek orchestrated a remarkable rescue mission for the Netherlands in their World Cup encounter against Sri Lanka, helping the Dutch set a competitive 263-run target. After a rocky start at 91 for 6, Engelbrecht and van Beek’s 130-run partnership for the seventh wicket or below became the highlight of the innings, and the highest in World Cup history.

Despite a challenging pitch, they picked up the singles and couples needed to steer their team to a total of 262. Engelbrecht, the more aggressive of the two, scored 70, while van Beek contributed 59. Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha and Dilshan Madushanka picked up four wickets each as the Netherlands reached 262 in 49.4 overs. This World Cup clash certainly had its share of twists and turns.
