Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has taken a significant step in addressing concerns over irregularities, corruption, misconduct, and dereliction of duties and responsibilities within Sri Lanka Cricket. To address these issues, an interim committee has been appointed, with former Sri Lanka cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga as its chairman.

This interim committee, consisting of seven distinguished members, has been entrusted with the task of handling the operations of Sri Lanka Cricket and conducting an impartial and transparent investigation into the alleged irregularities. Their primary objective is to submit a comprehensive report based on their findings. Furthermore, the committee has been given the authority to take necessary actions and implement recommendations from a special audit report issued by the Auditor General on September 11, 2023.

In addition to addressing current issues, the committee has a forward-looking mandate to propose recommendations aimed at streamlining the administration and preventing future mismanagement. This proactive approach seeks to ensure the long-term health and success of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The seven-member committee is composed of individuals with diverse expertise and experience, including retired Supreme Court Judges S. I. Imam and Rohini Marasinghe, retired High Court Judge Irangani Perera, former SLC President Upali Dharmadasa, Attorney-at-Law Rakitha Rajapakshe, and Hisham Jamaldeen. With their collective knowledge and commitment, this interim committee aims to bring positive changes to Sri Lanka Cricket’s governance and operations, fostering a brighter future for the sport in the country.
