Jake Weatherald delivered a stunning performance, smashing 80* off 32 balls, to propel Adelaide Strikers to a convincing eight-wicket victory over Hobart Hurricanes. Weatherald, filling in for the injured Chris Lynn, led Strikers to chase down 168 with ease and keep their Big Bash League (BBL) playoff hopes alive.
The explosive innings included nine boundaries and five sixes, with Weatherald showcasing dominance against spinner Paddy Dooley, finishing the game in style. This remarkable knock lifted Strikers to the fourth position on the BBL points table, edging past Melbourne Stars.
Weatherald, considering this innings even better than his century in the 2017-18 BBL final, expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing his hard work in T20 cricket. His unexpected inclusion in the playing XI turned out to be a game-changer for Strikers.
Strikers’ skipper Matt Short played a crucial role in setting up the run chase with a quick 39, while Weatherald’s 108-run partnership with Adam Hose solidified the victory.
Despite the triumph, Strikers are anxiously awaiting the fitness update on Chris Lynn, who had to sit out due to a hamstring twinge. Lynn’s availability for the final regular-season game remains uncertain, and he won’t be part of the finals as he departs for the ILT20 competition.
Adelaide Strikers will face Sydney Thunder in their last regular-season game, and the outcome will significantly impact their chances of securing a spot in the BBL playoffs.
