36TH MATCH 2020-21
11-JAN-2021, 08:15 AM
36TH Match (N), ADELAIDE, Jan 11 2021, Big Bash League
MLS VS ADS MATCH PREDICTION & ANALYSIS
We are finally off to a Big Bash League and the start to the tournament has been terrific. Hobart Hurricanes defied all odds after being in a difficult position to topple Sydney Sixers. In the second match of the tournament, Melbourne Stars rampaged past Brisbane Heat in a relatively single-street contest.
The upcoming match, which is to be played between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers has all the ingredients for yet another exciting contest. Even though the historical stats are a little tilted towards the Strikers, the Stars won’t be an easy side to beat considering the changes they’ve done this year. The match between the two sides is to be played between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide oval, Adelaide, on 11th January 2021.
With two wins and zero loss to their name in the tournament so far, Melbourne Stars will be pretty pleased with their performance up until now. They are placed at the second spot on the points table and will be looking to get to the top with a win in this upcoming match. They were robbed of a win in their recent match as rain played spoil=sport at Launceston, but the Stars wouldn’t be worried.
The Stars will be not be playing with their regular playing eleven in this match as Nic Maddinson will not be available. Having said that, there isn’t a lot that is lost for the Stars with his absence. Nicholas Pooran joined the team recently and Ben Dunk is expected to come in for Nic Maddinson. With Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell already leading the Stars’ charge, the Stars seem to be having a terrific batting unit, even without Maddinson. Apart from that, the Stars bat pretty deep with the presence of all-rounders and that could be a key factor in the tournament going forward.
The variety in the Stars’ bowling unit is evident by the fact that Maxwell has had the luxury of using as many as eight bowlers in the tournament. They have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience with the likes of Nathan Coulter Nile, Liam Hatcher, and Adam Zampa available at their disposal. Hatcher has been the pick of their bowlers so far in the competition, picking up five wickets with an excellent economy of 6.42.
Glenn Maxwell had a forgetful run in the IPL but has looked in superb form ever since he has landed in Australia. He was terrific in the ODIs and T20Is against India and has carried that form into the Big Bash League. Marcus Stoinis, as well, has looked good and his swashbuckling fifty against Thunder was an instance of how brutal he can be with the bat. The pair of Maxwell and Stoinis will certainly be the key to win the match for the Stars.
Peter Siddle picked up a five-wicket haul to lead his side to victory against the Hobart Hurricanes. He was not the only good bowler of the game, though. Even Wes Agar, Rashid Khan, and Daniel Worrall all had a great game with the ball.
The Adelaide Strikers are always tough to beat when their bowling is firing and that is what they are going to bank on in this match as well. We like the matchup between Rashid Khan and the leading batsmen of the Sydney Sixers.
The Strikers got off to a poor start with the bat once again but Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey were spectacular. They kept the scoreboard ticking and accelerated with ease towards the end.
There were some cheap wickets that fell towards the end and that is something that would concern the Strikers. We worry about their depth in batting. They have the names on the sheet but somehow they always seem to be struggling with the bat.
The signs for the team are good as the bowling starts to come together and we think that Rashid Khan is due for a big wickets haul soon.
All they need to do now is ensure that their batsmen keep them in the game for long enough!
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
There is some rain around in Canberra but hopefully, nothing that is going to affect that match. The pitch is going to be good for batting, the boundaries are small on one side, and the runs should flow.
We know that the previous match at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium was a low-scoring one but this one should be better. A score of around 160 should be par.
MLS VS ADS BETTING TIPS
Historically, the Strikers have been a more successful team in the head-to-head encounters between the two sides. While they have lost a lot of good players in recent years, their team looks well-balanced this time around. On the contrary, the Stars are likely to have a hard time with their key players absent for the first few matches. The likes of Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, and Matt Renshaw, can be difficult to deal with for any bowling attack, and having those players is the biggest advantage that the Strikers have. In addition to that, they have hard-hitting batsmen coupled with experienced bowlers available. For those reasons, betting on Adelaide Strikers’ win should be the way to go in this all-important encounter.
