In a spectacle fit for the cricketing stage, David Warner is set to make a grand entrance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for the upcoming BBL clash between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers. The Australian opener, fresh from his brother’s wedding, will land on the SCG outfield via helicopter, adding a touch of Hollywood flair to the local derby.

Originally planned to use Allianz Stadium adjacent to the cricket ground, the change of venue will see Warner’s helicopter touch down on the SCG outfield, reminiscent of the “Thanks Dave” logo painted during his farewell Test. Weather permitting, the arrival is scheduled for around 5 pm, enhancing the anticipation for what could be a sellout fixture.

Sydney Thunder’s Gurinder Sandhu expressed appreciation for Warner’s commitment, emphasizing the effort the star batsman is making to play in the BBL. Despite Warner’s potentially limited playing time due to international commitments and commentary work, his presence is highly valued within the Thunder squad.

Warner’s extravagant entrance has drawn light-hearted comments from opponents, with Sydney Sixers’ Sean Abbott playfully noting Warner’s “Hollywood” style. Abbott, eager to face one of the world’s best players, acknowledged the excitement among cricket fans to witness Warner in action in the BBL.

Warner, who signed a lucrative two-year deal with Thunder, has indicated his desire to return next season. As the Thunder chase a slim chance of reaching the knockouts, Warner’s availability for a limited number of games adds star power to the BBL. After participating in the ILT20 in the UAE, Warner is expected to return for the T20I series against West Indies before his final international retirement post the T20 World Cup in June.
