The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to kick off on March 22, bringing a fresh wave of excitement as the 18th edition of the T20 league begins in Kolkata. The highly anticipated opening ceremony will feature Bollywood sensation Disha Patani, who is all set to light up the stage before the opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal is also scheduled to perform, with ICC chairman Jay Shah expected to attend the event.
In a first for the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to host opening ceremonies at all 13 venues where IPL matches will be played. Celebrities like Salman Khan, Varun Dhawan, Katrina Kaif, Triptii Dimri, Ananya Panday, Madhuri Dixit, and Janhvi Kapoor are expected to perform throughout the season at various locations, providing fans with a star-studded experience. The BCCI has planned to include two to three performers during the intervals of each match to ensure a vibrant atmosphere.
The event’s scale presents some logistical challenges, but BCCI and State associations are working closely to ensure smooth coordination, ensuring that the performances don’t interfere with match schedules. Matches will not only be played at the traditional IPL venues but also at second home grounds for some teams, such as Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Dharamshala, and Mullanpur, where Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings will host games.
