Perth Scorchers’ fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been sidelined for the remainder of the Big Bash League (BBL) due to a left side strain, raising doubts about his availability for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against West Indies.
Richardson, who struggled with form this BBL season, managed six wickets at an average of 40.33 and an economy rate of 9.18. Despite his challenging season, he had earned a recall to the Australia squad for the three ODIs against West Indies, marking his return to the national side since 2022.
The injury setback occurred after Scorchers’ match against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. Subsequent scans revealed the extent of the left side strain, prompting the decision to rule him out of the ongoing BBL season. Richardson has faced multiple injuries throughout his career, including shoulder dislocations that required surgery and still affect his ability to throw properly in the outfield.
The Scorchers, currently in contention for the second spot in the BBL table, will miss Richardson’s services as they aim for a strong finish in the competition. The ODI series against West Indies is scheduled to begin in Melbourne on February 2.
This injury setback adds to Richardson’s challenges, and his recovery timeline will determine whether he can join the Australian squad for the West Indies ODIs. The fast bowler was recently picked up by Delhi Capitals in the IPL auction, further highlighting his value in the T20 format.
