India pacer Mohammed Siraj has expressed his excitement following the BCCI’s decision to lift the saliva ban ahead of IPL 2025. The move, which was made after a majority of team captains agreed to the proposal, will allow bowlers to use saliva on the ball once again, a practice that was restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Siraj, who has joined Gujarat Titans for the upcoming season, welcomed this change, stating that it will help bowlers generate “reverse swing” even in less favorable conditions.

“It’s excellent news for us bowlers because when the ball isn’t doing much, applying saliva can increase the chances of reverse swing,” Siraj said, emphasizing that saliva helps maintain the shine on one side of the ball, which is crucial for reverse swing. He further added, “Scrubbing the ball on the shirt won’t do much, but using saliva will help keep the shine intact.”

Excited about his new chapter with Gujarat Titans, Siraj spoke highly of his new captain, Shubman Gill. He called Gill a “bowler’s dream,” praising his supportive leadership style. “Gill is a bowler’s captain. He never discourages us from trying new things or following our plans,” said Siraj, reflecting on their strong personal rapport after making their Test debuts together in 2020.

With an impressive bowling lineup at Gujarat Titans, including the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Ishant Sharma, and Gerald Coetzee, Siraj believes the competition within the team will push everyone to perform at their best. “It’s a blessing to have such experienced bowlers in the squad,” he added. However, Siraj is aware of the pressure to fill the shoes of Mohammed Shami, who has moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite this, Siraj is confident he can step up to the challenge. “My job is to take wickets for the team. I’ve done that before and will continue to do so,” he said.

Siraj also shared his thoughts on his recent absence from the Indian team, having missed the white-ball series against England and the Champions Trophy campaign. “Selection is not in my hands. I focus on my performance and want to do well for Gujarat Titans in the IPL,” Siraj remarked, adding that he used the time away to improve his fitness and refine his skills, particularly in bowling yorkers and slower balls.

Looking forward to working with Gujarat Titans’ coach Ashish Nehra, Siraj hopes to gain valuable insights from the former fast bowler to further elevate his game. “Ashu bhai has done a lot for Indian cricket, and I look forward to learning from him,” Siraj concluded.

As Siraj gears up for IPL 2025, he is determined to make a significant impact and help Gujarat Titans claim another title. For expert insights, IPL updates, and betting tips, visit Cricket Betting Tips.
