SYDNEY SIXERS VS MELBOURNE STARS Match Betting Predictions 2020

15TH MATCH 2020-21

26-DEC-2020, 10:20 AM

15TH Match (N),Queensland, Dec 26 2020, Big Bash League

It is going to be a busy Boxing Day for Cricket fans across the globe. Apart from three international matches, we have a few T20 matches scheduled as well. The day sees Sydney Sixers take on Melbourne Stars in what is expected to be a nail-biting encounter.

There’s a clear line of separation between the two sides on the points table, but a win here for Sydney Sixers will put them right on par with the Stars. These are still early days in the tournament, but points on the board always carry significant importance. This match between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars is to be played at Carrara Oval, Carrara on 26 December 2020.

Even though the Sixers are placed on the fourth spot, they have done a lot better than their position suggests. They have won the same number of games as the Stars and have eight points to their name. In addition to the eight points, they have an impressive net run-rate of 2.783, which suggests how dominating they have been. They lived up to their name in their previous match and Dan Christian racked up a string of sixes to take them to a competitive score.

On paper, the Sixers have a well-balanced side with almost everyone capable of winning the match on his own. James Vince and Joshua Phillipe have been brilliant at the top of the order and a lot will depend on the pair yet again. The addition of Jason Holder not only added to their strength with the ball but also ensured that they have decent depth with the bat.

Even though the return of Holder has sharpened their bowling attack, their attack still appears to be a little too over-reliant on Ben Dwarshius and Holder. The rest of their bowlers are a tad inexperienced and that could be a factor against Melbourne Stars, who have a potent batting unit. Having said that, the Sixers have a batting unit that can cover-up for their bowling. If there’s one team that can match the potency of the Stars, it is the Sixers and they shouldn’t be taken lightly by anyone in the upcoming contest.

With two wins and zero loss to their name in the tournament so far, Melbourne Stars will be pretty pleased with their performance up until now. They are placed at the second spot on the points table and will be looking to get to the top with a win in this upcoming match. They were robbed of a win in their recent match as rain played spoil=sport at Launceston, but the Stars wouldn’t be worried.

The Stars will be not be playing with their regular playing eleven in this match as Nic Maddinson will not be available. Having said that, there isn’t a lot that is lost for the Stars with his absence. Nicholas Pooran joined the team recently and Ben Dunk is expected to come in for Nic Maddinson. With Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell already leading the Stars’ charge, the Stars seem to be having a terrific batting unit, even without Maddinson. Apart from that, the Stars bat pretty deep with the presence of all-rounders and that could be a key factor in the tournament going forward.

The variety in the Stars’ bowling unit is evident by the fact that Maxwell has had the luxury of using as many as eight bowlers in the tournament. They have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience with the likes of Nathan Coulter Nile, Liam Hatcher, and Adam Zampa available at their disposal. Hatcher has been the pick of their bowlers so far in the competition, picking up five wickets with an excellent economy of 6.42.

Glenn Maxwell had a forgetful run in the IPL but has looked in superb form ever since he has landed in Australia. He was terrific in the ODIs and T20Is against India and has carried that form into the Big Bash League. Marcus Stoinis, as well, has looked good and his swashbuckling fifty against Thunder was an instance of how brutal he can be with the bat. The pair of Maxwell and Stoinis will certainly be the key to win the match for the Stars.

Carrara Oval is a pretty rarely used ground, but the toss has played an important role in the limited history of the venue. Batsmen have enjoyed batting here and with runs on the board, chasing here has been difficult. The weather forecast for the day is pretty good and a beautiful, clear night is expected. The average total here batting first is 163, but the team batting first would want to get a little more than that. A total in the range of 170-180 is a par score here.

There’s a not to separate the two sides on the points table, but a win for Stars here will certainly widen the gap. On paper, the two teams are well-matched, at least with the bat. With the ball, however, the Stars appear to be better equipped with experienced players available to bowl at the crucial junctures of the game. Furthermore, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are both in stupendous form and could be difficult to deal with for the Sixers’ bowlers. Keeping those factors into consideration, the Stars certainly appear to be better placed to emerge on top in this Boxing Day contest.

Our Favorite Bets

How many will any player score – 50+, 1.15 @ 1xBet

Although we haven’t seen matches with massive scores yet in this edition of Big Bash League, the runs haven’t been too difficult to come. The surface at this venue is even better suited to bat on and the past results reflect that. With batting being the strength of both sides, at least one fifty-plus score is certainly on the cards. The returns on offer are not much, but this bet is so safe that it is tough to ignore.

Total Runs in the Highest Scoring Over of the Match – Under 18.5, 2.10 @ Betway

Even though this ground offers an excellent batting surface, the dimensions of the ground ensure that huge overs are difficult to come by. Scoring 19 or more runs in an over is never easy, regardless of who the bowler or the batsmen is. This is a decent bet and getting more than twice the amount bet makes it even more lucrative.

Glenn Maxwell – Total Fours – Over 2.5 – 2.10 @ Betway

It is quite remarkable how the tables have turned for Glenn Maxwell ever since returning to Australia after a forgetful IPL. He has been one of the most consistent batsmen in recent times and has scored well in whatever chances he has had, of late. He bats at a decent position for the Stars and will most probably get enough deliveries to face. Given the form he is in, hitting at least three fours shouldn’t be a tough job for him.
