43rd Match (N), Canberra, Jan 18 2021, Big Bash League
HBH VS SYT MATCH PREDICTION & ANALYSIS
The Sydney Thunder started the BBL 2020-21 season with a comprehensive victory over the Perth Scorchers. Their bowlers set up the game brilliantly after which the batsmen finished it off in style. They now travel to Alice Springs for their next game against the Hobart Hurricanes. Continuing in the quest to expand cricket beyond its traditional centers, the Hurricanes will play their opening match at a venue where one BBL matches hosted in 2018 and last season’s match had to be canceled because of a poor outfield.
The Hobart Hurricanes were considered desperately unlucky to be knocked out in the semis after a brilliant group stage. Can they start off in the same dominant fashion again?
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunders BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at Manuka Oval, Canberra on the 18th of January 2021.
The Hobart Hurricanes are going to be without Jofra Archer this season and that could have a big impact on their performances. They still have the core of the successful side together, though, and are going to be hard to stop.
Caleb Jewell, David Miller, George Bailey, Ben McDermott, and Jake Doran are some of the other batsmen in the squad that will have to help carry the load of scoring runs. George Bailey has retired from first-class cricket and this is going to be his last BBL season as well.
Ben McDermott is dangerous and we know what David Miller is capable of in the T20 format but reliability is an issue with both these batsmen.
James Faulkner, Clive Rose, and Qais Ahmed are all decent batsmen but they would not like to be needed too often.
The Hurricanes are known for their love for fast bowlers and they still have some exciting names in their squad, even without Archer. Rilee Meredith, Aaron Summers, and David Moody are all quick bowlers while Nathan Ellis joins the squad with a big reputation as well.
Qais Ahmed and Clive Rose are the spin-bowling options in the side.
Sydney Thunder was lucky to walk away with a win in its previous match against Brisbane Heat. Daniel Sams played an extraordinary inning coming in late to allow them to chase down 179.
Thunder has to be better in this game against the Scorchers in both the batting and the bowling departments. One positive is that Adam Milne is going to be available for Sydney Thunder from this match and we think he is going to slot straight into the team.
Nathan McAndrew looks like the player that is most likely to miss out. We think Sydney Thunder has a decent bowling attack but there are some weaknesses to be exploited.
Chris Green is a very different bowler after remodeling his action and we are not sure if he is going to be as effective as he once was. Jonathan Cook and T Sangha could both go for runs on a bad day and that is bound to happen at some time in this BBL.
The batting order is a lot more settled. Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson, Alex Ross, Baxter Holt, and Ben Cutting form a pretty useful lineup. There is experience at the top, power in the middle, and a fair bit of depth as well.
Sydney Thunder is a dangerous team but needs to ensure its best players hit form sooner rather than later.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
The conditions at Alice Springs are always a bit tricky to play in. The outfield can be sandy and the balls tend to plug-in rather than bounce away quickly. The outfield is pretty small in size and the pitch is a drop-in. We should have some pretty good batting conditions but perhaps more help for the spinner than teams are used to in Australia.
That could play into the hands of the Sydney Thunders.
HBH VS SYT BETTING TIPS
We think the Sydney Thunders have a good chance of winning this match. They have started the tournament well and are in good form. Their bowling lineup is capable of competing against the Hurricanes while their batting is pretty decent as well. The Hobart Hurricanes have some major changes in their side and are not starting at the venue of their choice either.
It could be a rough start to the season for them.
