Cricket Australia has made Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey available for their respective clubs’ upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) matches. However, Travis Head has been given a rest by Cricket Australia ahead of the West Indies Test series.

Khawaja and Labuschagne are poised to rejoin the undefeated Brisbane Heat, facing the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba, while Alex Carey will feature for the Adelaide Strikers against the Hobart Hurricanes.

Additionally, Steven Smith is anticipated to participate for the Sydney Sixers against the Sydney Thunder, with David Warner planning to make an appearance after his brother’s wedding.

The return of Khawaja and Labuschagne, who featured in the Heat’s first game against the Melbourne Stars, is set to create selection dilemmas for the Heat. The team, with six wins in eight matches, has already secured a spot in the top three of the regular season.

Brisbane Heat’s coach, Wade Seccombe, expressed his enthusiasm about having Usman and Marnus back in the team, especially as they approach the critical stage of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Alex Carey’s availability serves as a boost for the Adelaide Strikers, who currently stand at sixth place with two wins. They will likely need to win all their remaining matches to enhance their prospects of advancing further in the league.

Travis Head, according to a Strikers’ statement, will not be available for BBL selection during the break between international Test series, as per Cricket Australia’s medical staff.

Mitchell Marsh won’t be available for the Perth Scorchers against Brisbane Heat due to reasons undisclosed. Additionally, players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green are not involved in BBL matches due to various reasons including promotional commitments, scheduling issues, and red-ball cricket focus.

Nathan Lyon won’t be debuting for Melbourne Renegades this season as their upcoming game coincides with the day the Test squad gathers in Adelaide for the first Test against West Indies.

The scheduling this season was adjusted due to the ODI World Cup, however, there’s a likelihood for a more extended window for Australia’s Test players to participate in the BBL next season.
