West Indies Announce Women’s Squad For Home ODI Series Against New Zealand

Women in Cricket

Cricket is a male-dominated sport but has been gaining popularity in recent years as more and more women are competing. It’s considered to be one of the toughest sports, both physically and mentally, so women who choose to play tend to have a really strong focus. On Thursday 5th March 2018, the West Indies announced their first-ever women’s cricket team which included 7 players. The squad includes Tammy Beaumont and Natalie Sciver, who are English cricketers that played for England during the 2017 World Cup campaign. With the influx of female cricketers coming from all over the world, cricket betting tips have become popular as well because it’s not always easy to predict how they will perform on game day.

Stafanie Taylor’s captaincy

With West Indies announcing their squads ahead of the two ODIs at home to New Zealand, captain Stafanie Taylor named an all-rounder while retaining the frontline pace attack. This is the first time Taylor has led in the ODIs and could be a factor in what to expect from her leadership given her expertise with the bat. She appears to have gone with seam bowlers given it will be easier with fewer moving parts and she does not have experience in managing all three formats as players can go for long periods without playing a match. The spin option was decided on late which could show that her batting strength outweighs her weakness in leading spinners.

Deandra Dottin, Tahira Khan

Known for their all-around abilities, middle-order batsman Deandra Dottin and spinner Tahira Khan have been recalled by West Indies. Opener Shanel Daley also makes a return to the side after last playing an international game in 2007.
Dottin is the top-ranked batter from Windies and has played 56 ODIs since her debut in 2006. She hit her maiden century off 111 balls against England at Derby in 2010 and will be hopeful of finishing on the winning side when she faces New Zealand at Sabina Park on Wednesday (August 13).
At 13 years old, Tahira Khan became the youngest bowler to take two wickets on debut and has continued to grow with 14 international appearances over six years.

Merissa Aguilleira, Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews, Britney Cooper, Quanera Hayes

Coach Omar Khan has announced his team for the three ODIs in Antigua from Sunday, 20 July. Captain Merissa Aguilleira will be joined by Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews, and Britney Cooper in the top four with Quanera Hayes being slotted into a middle-order spot. Knight gets her first opportunity to lead the team in this format and she says she is prepared to do so. When she isn’t playing cricket, Knight is teaching children’s classes at local primary schools and coaching them in life skills as well as cricket. Cricket is an important part of life but it’s not everything, Knight said while speaking to Wired868 earlier this week.

Jhaniele Fowler (WK), Shamilia Connell, Shemaine Campbelle, Stacy-Ann King

The West Indies women’s cricket team announced its squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. The squads consist of four fast bowlers and five all-rounders. Jhaniele Fowler, Shamilia Connell, Shemaine Campbelle, and Stacy-Ann King will lead the attack while Deandra Dottin is expected to provide some relief for the pacers. Kyshona Knight and Alexia Walcott are the all-rounders in the squad.
