Winning Star Robin Uthappa Announces Retirement From Cricket

An introspective look at the journey so far

For a player who has been in the Indian squad for over 10 years and won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20, a decision to retire is difficult. Yet, with pressure mounting to give way to the next generation of talent, it has never seemed like a more opportune time for his decision. Now is as good a time as any, but no matter what period of his career he is at right now; it would be unfair not to say that these have been some of the most successful years of his life. His work rate has always been exemplary on the field but there was an added sense of responsibility being India’s leading run scorer in International cricket. That responsibility spurred him on at times when others would have begun to feel weary and uninspired.

How I got into cricket and some fond memories

I have been a cricket fan for as long as I can remember. When I was in fifth grade, the 1999 cricket World Cup happened, and India won their first world cup in any sport, which made me fall head over heels for the game. And when we watched the semifinal against Pakistan from school one day when our teacher took us out to go see it live at Mohali Stadium with 20,000 other people and India finally beat them after 40 years of trying – that was one of my happiest days ever. From then on, I knew this is what I wanted to do. There are so many great memories I could share: Beating Australia in the final at Sydney in 2003; seeing Sachin Tendulkar hit his first six off Shoaib Akhtar to seal victory; all those World Cups played during its infancy – 2007, 2011, and most recently 2016.
In 2007, right before we left for the tournament, someone found out about my love for cricket. It was Sachin Tendulkar who called me up himself! He said he had heard about how passionate I am about the game and that he would like to talk to me sometime soon. And it turned into a nice chat where he told me some of his fondest memories too! He always has time for his fans!

About my contribution to Indian cricket

Robin is a right-handed batsman and an occasional leg break bowler. Â He made his Test debut against England in Ahmedabad in 2004. Â Robin has been a consistent member of the Indian ODI team over the last few years. Â The left-hander scored 2 fifties, one each in India and South Africa respectively, which proved to be instrumental for the victory of his team during these two tours. Â His last international match was played on January 4, 2018, against Australia in Sydney. Â After playing 17 Tests and 132 ODIs, he called it quits with all forms of cricket on Tuesday (December 26). Â I’m done with my career said Uthappa who won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 as well as being part of India’s 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning team.
I just felt like I didn’t want to continue anymore because I had nothing left to prove.
There will be no farewell game either.
It would have been a big thing but I don’t think people care about me now, he added.

Acknowledging and thanking everyone involved in my life, career, family, and friends

As a person who has grown up in the game of cricket, it is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket. I take this opportunity to thank my friends, family, and everyone else for their unconditional support in the last twenty years.
I would also like to express gratitude to the Indian Cricket Board for providing me with the opportunity to represent India at the junior level and spend a memorable 21 years playing for our country, as well as their continued guidance thereafter. I am honored to have served as an important member of Indian cricket teams across all formats, including captaincy of both limited-overs sides. It was always my desire to make every possible contribution toward being successful and I believe that if you do things in life wholeheartedly, success will follow.
I will now take some time off before deciding on the next chapter of my life which will include continuing my education. Cricket Betting Tips

My plans

To think I’ll never see him hit a six off the last ball to win a world cup match is gut-wrenching. To think that my little brother will not be able to play cricket against him, and call him uncle. Life goes on and good things happen too – we will just have to stay tuned for now.
Also, I’m looking forward to seeing how his experience in cricket can help us with Cricket Betting Tips – he has been exposed to many different formats of the game so if you know about any books/videos that he might have seen, do let me know!
